I lost it at panels 5 and 6.
BLACK spectral energy?! That’s…
Really? My breaking point was panels 7-8.
^^^ i lost it. laughing so hard.
hes probably lying about it being common.
Man, I hope not. It’d be waaaaaay more awesome if it was just ordinary. I’m starting to get tired of the main character always having some special aura or energy or something that identifies them as “special”.
OMG! IKR! I know the main character’s the main character, but they dont need to be special or different, they’re honestly better if they dont get all the special stuff, cuz that doesnt happen in real life
I’ve always been of the opinion that a main character deserves to have -one- special thing about them, because then it can be “We’re writing about them -because- they’re special.” You just can’t have them be the greatest mage in all the land AND ALSO the prince of this country PLUS the only one who can unlock the magic door. (Special exceptions for ones caused by others, ofc.)
Personally I think it’s best if the main character is special on their own merits. Like Max is already acrobatic and witty, he doesn’t need some crazy never-before-seen magic power.
Concurred. And it makes for a better plot arc, I’d bet, than if they just HAPPEN to be the One True Chosen Guy.
Putting all these replies together, I agree, and disagree, and yeah.
I have read/seen/played way too many things that have the main character as the ultimate badass, and I like Maxwell. He should be a normal guy, but with his wittiness and badassery, he’ll be special in his own way, like everyone else.
I friggen love this comic.
‘cept for *SPOILER* time eel/snake it seems kinda plot necessary *END SPOILER* you’re absolutely right.
*Other SPOILER* Seems like something’s gotten into his head here too. *END SPOILER*
I think every character should be special in there own right, Max is acrobatic and snarky, Isabelles a seasoned spectral and good at fighting, Ed’s funny and Isaac’s, well Isaac’s the kid with the hair.
So hes not the middle school ghost hunter told about in all the bathroom stalls, as the one to save us all from the creepy ghost thingys?!
Panels 7 and 8 are what did it for me. Lampshading makes everything better.
Anon’s comment made me lose it. XD
I love it when authors play with tropes like this. It’s nicely dosed out, unlike other comics.
jokes on you! it’s not black energy, it’s octarine! we can’t se it as octarine cuz we aren’t wizards.
I love where Edds tossing up the horns for his blasts
Getting a real shonen vibe.
Ed’s pose in the third to last panel… “Fuuuusion… HA!” moment to anybody else? XD
Yeah, I hope he’s joking. Black Energy while the others have the basic colors, inculding himself? That’s unique in its own right.
Maybe bright colors (e.g. red, yellow, green) are uncommon while dark/shadow colors (e.g. black, blue, purple) are common.
I think vivid and vibrant colors are common and the pastels more rare.
Thought black spectral energy was uncommon, then he says it is. I was so frustrated with Mr. Spender, but i was dying from laughing so hard that i didn’t care. Also, if Max’s eyes glow because of his spirit, that is SO cool!
He’s already special, a parkour runner. Why does his spectral energy have to be anything special. Props for the change to the usual status quo.
Hmm… Theory. Black spectral energy is most often found in villains, and, taking Max’s power into account as well, Max is going to be one of those characters who’s all set to be a villain, save for their personality.
More like the spirit in his bat is part of a rather… unpleasant faction. That’s my thinking.
This page is far more important than any of us had thought!
Ehehe, his eyes in panel 10 are a very nice allusion.
Having seen some of the later pages of Chapter 3 (Specifically, Page 39).. I have a funny feeling Panel 10 is more than it seems here.
I get the same feeling man! I mean, glowing eyes, a Headache! Super foreshadow-y.
I thought mr. spender said black spectral energy was common? How come we haven’t seen it anywhere else, i wonder? Or maybe we have and i forgot about it.
Anonymous lady in back with bad aim.
SWEET MOTHER MACKEREL there’s a typo in panel 4
So he’s not Ichigo then? =D
